The vineyard
A family story
The estate was acquired in 1972 by Philippe and Odette Miguet. Following Philippe's death, their daughter Clarisse joined her mother.
Both were pioneers in the world of wine: vineyards cultivated organically and natural wines produced starting in 1995.
The estate was then called Saint Roman d'Esclans.
And today
Always steeped in the culture of the vine and the world of wine, Fabrice naturally took over the estate upon his mother's death and thus created Terres d'Esclans.
He was then joined by his partner Agathe, who left the world of environmental law.
Together, they are omnipresent on the estate, both in the vineyards, in the cellar, and in marketing.
Logically, they perpetuate the values they have acquired.
The vines
The entire estate (6.5 hectares of vines) faces due south, on a hillside, at an altitude of 150 meters. The vines are managed using organic farming practices, with respect for all living things – grass cover 9 months a year, green manures, shallow plowing, presence of wooded areas and hedges.
The soils are clay-limestone and very stony – a terroir particularly suitable for red wines.
Although small, the estate has a great diversity of grape varieties: Grenache, Mourvèdre, Cinsault, Syrah, Carignan, Cabernet Sauvignon, Vermentino, Grenache Blanc, Grenache Gris, and Carignan Blanc.
The estate also has a small olive grove for family consumption.
In the cellar
Grapes are harvested manually very early in the morning to ensure perfect sorting and optimal freshness.
They are then pressed in an old vertical press, which gently presses the grapes and retains only the fine lees.
The winery has two spaces that are connected by gravity. The juices therefore flow from the press directly into the aging section of the cellar.
The wines are made with indigenous yeasts, without any additives except for a minimal dose of sulfites (1 to 2 g/hl). They are aged mainly in barrels.
The wines are not filtered. They are bottled and labeled by us.
